Speech-Language Therapy
Speech-language therapy focuses on maximizing an individual's communication and interaction skills. We specialize in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric communication delays and disorders. Specifically, we work with children experiencing difficulties in the areas of expressive-receptive language, cognition, articulation/motor speech skills, social skills, thinking skills, auditory processing/perceptual skills, language processing skills, word finding, phonemic awareness/pre-literacy skills, stuttering/fluency, and others. Treatment is conducted within play-based, high interest activities which mirror situations your child will face in their everyday lives. Our therapists hold certifications in special areas and techniques which include P.R.O.M.P.T., Hanen Parent Training, and Fast ForWord.

P.R.O.M.P.T. (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) was developed by Deborah Hayden over the past 30 years. It is a total therapeutic program which utilizes a hands-on, non-invasive manipulation of the oral structures to assist with production of motor movements that pave the way for speech production. P.R.O.M.P.T. is embedded within naturalistic situations which encompass all of the language, social, cognitive, and physical needs of the child. In essence, this program utilizes all of the different modalities available to the child (auditory, physical, and tactile-kinesthetic). The child is performing an action while hearing the auditory information, at the same time the oral musculature is guided for production of the target word. Hanen Parent Program is a parent-training program that helps parents understand more about their child as a communicator and teaches research-based strategies for enhancing communication with your child. The main philosophy behind all Hanen Programs is that you, the child's parents, are essential in the treatment process. You are the most important people in your child's life, have the strongest relationship with your child, and you spend the most time with your child. Research shows that children learn language in natural settings during the routines and activities that take place throughout the day, thus parental involvement is key for the child to have successful interactions. Please refer to www.hanen.org for more information.
Fast ForWord is an intensive, computer-based "game" program for children in grades K-12, developed by the Scientific Learning Corporation. Fast ForWord software develops and strengthens memory, attention, processing rate, and sequencing - the cognitive skills essential for learning and reading success. The strengthening of these skills results in a wide range of improved critical language and reading skills such as phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, working memory, syntax, grammar, and other skills necessary to learn how to read or to become a better reader.
